It’s important for young children to be introduced to environmental topics at a young age, so they are more aware and engaged with environmental issues! This can encourage kids to practice sustainable habits, care about the animals and environment around them, and learn about communal impact!
An initiative we are developing is a Children’s Environmental Story Hour. At the story hour, students pick environmental picture books and stories and read them aloud to children. Along with the reading, students discuss some of these environmental topics and introduce sustainable habits and ideas, such as recycling, composting, etc. The audience then gets the chance to work on a craft or project, such as making their own water filters out of natural materials, using recycled materials for art, or learning how to compost. Each story hour focuses on a specific environmental topic and has a story, discussion, and craft dedicated to the topic.
Our first event is scheduled for this upcoming fall at the Princeton Public Library!
